First things first... the daily grind |
Weekday shifts are 0800-1730. The Team Lead for the day will come in earlier to make assignments. On Saturdays, shifts are 0730-1530 and the two people scheduled share the role of "Team Lead." No Sundays! A normal day may look something like this: 0745-0800 - Receive patient assignment and start preparing for the day. You will write your assignment on this sheet: Preparation: Review the kardex for patients assigned to you, read our recent "Wound Consult" and "Enterostomal Therapy" notes in Help2 as needed, look up the basic history, and anything else you need to do to prepare for the day. 0815 Team huddle - preview of the day, team discussion concerning breakdown of assignments.
Sometime between 0815-0845 (after preparation) - Start seeing patients. 1230 or 1300 Team huddle (time determined by the Team Lead for the day) Lunch break The time you take lunch is up to you. You get 30 minutes and can eat your lunch in the office, take a break in the CSU breakroom, the cafeteria, or other location of your choosing. The rest of the day is up to you! Unless you have a scheduled patient in the clinic or are assigned to a scheduled procedure, you determine in which order you would like to see your patients and how you want to organize your day. You can chart as you go, meaning after each patient, or you can see a few patients and then chart. You can fill out charges and kardexes as you go, or you can save those until after you have seen all of your patients. 1730 (earlier if we are not busy) Time to go home. Frequently, we will complete work early and will take turns leaving early so as to rotate losing hours. Our Wound Team coordinator carefully monitors this and will let you know when it is your turn.
