G-tube care and education
G-tubes are a way to receive enteral nutrition. A g-tube may be necessary for a patient who is unable to get adequate nutrition orally (PO). Reasons for being unable to maintain caloric need varies from patient to patient, but may include swallowing difficulty, aspiration, or failure to thrive (FTT).
There are two surgical methods used for the creation of gastrostomies (g-tubes):
1) Laproscopic
2) Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)
Laproscopic
Less common procedures, but we do see occasionally:
