Training a new employee puts you in a position of leadership. Being in a position of authority as a preceptor puts you in a position of influence. Your motivations and use of power affects the atmosphere and job satisfaction of everyone on the team. Important characteristics of a good leader include empowerment, communication , fostering critical thinking, innovation, and decision-making skills.

FollowershipThe relationship between leadership and followership defines leadership; without a follower there is no leader. "Effective followers are an asset to be nurtured, developed, and valued."
