Dermatitis
The most common dermatits that we treat is diaper dermatitis (DD), better know as diaper rash. It is an acute inflammatory reaction of skin on the buttocks, perineal area, genitals and may extend to the upper thighs. Diaper dermatitis is very common in the pediatric population and is caused by an increase in pH of the skin from contact with several irritants to the skin from fecal matter.
DD presents as erythema in varying degrees, from mild, to moderate, to severe. DD is less common in breastmilk-fed infants than in formula-fed infants due to higher amounts of Zinc and Iron.

Treatment of DD starts with prevention; super absorbent diapers or pads (Primary Children's uses Huggies brand diapers) are the first line of defense against diaper rash. Other treatment includes:
|
Candidiasis with satellite lesions

We also treat:
Contact dermatitis - an allergic reaction, often to medical tape or other adhesives, such as tegaderm Candidiasis - Yeast infection; presents with satellite lesions, meaning dark red plaque with smaller red outlying macules.
